SEO has had a bad rep for a long time now, thanks to the malicious black hat tricks that gained more popularity than the legitimate white hat services during the formative years of SEO. People were extremely shocked to see their website rankings go down when subsequent Google algorithm updates became stringent, which further upset the credibility of SEO. It’s been some time since then, but false prejudices about SEO still prevail among many people. Here a few common SEO myths those are as true as a sunny night sky-
- SEO is Malevolent: One of the main factors of -legitimate- SEO is to study the Google algorithms and design a customized SEO program that suits the customer best. Your Google search results are based on certain algorithms as devised by Google to procure relevant results. Algorithm is math. This means SEO experts use certified methods of testing and analysis to determine the right SEO structure that benefits you best.
- SEO is Cheap: A decade ago, I would have probably agreed with this one. But Google algorithms have changed phenomenally since then, and they continue to get upgrades and are tweaked on a daily basis. I am not exaggerating on the daily basis bit. What does this mean for an SEO expert? Constantly keeping up with the changing trends, learning, working to figure out the various nuances and including them in the working structure- or as I would like to call it “A hell lot of work!”. With SEO, you are not just hiring a service, but a constantly evolving knowledge bank, which assures you growth and prosperity on a regular basis.
- Content is the only thing that matters: Correction- Content is ONE of the things that matters. It is true that you cannot completely disregard the importance of good content, but having excellent content without proper exposure is the same as having a mind blowing birthday party without inviting anyone yet expecting people to show up. I am not downplaying the importance of good content, heck, good content is an integral part of SEO, but getting your name out there involves more than just generating good content.
- SEO is dead: This is one of my favourite myths, mostly because this has been around for years now, and has been proved wrong every time! Search Engine Optimization, by definition, involves researching the online search patterns and studying Google algorithms to optimize your website to garnet maximum exposure. This is a logical endeavour and requires human intervention to understand the various practices in order to achieve results- in this case page rankings and views. Organic search is still the best way to get people to visit your site. This will continue to be the trend, and SEO will still be relevant, as long as people use search engines.
